The Instruction Manual

“The word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword.“ – Hebrews 4:12

Every new vehicle has one. It’s found in the glove compartment of your new car.

It’s an owner’s manual.

If you thumb through it, you’ll see everything you need to know about how to care for your vehicle: how to read all the signs on the dashboard, what warning signals mean, and what’s available to you on the touch screens.

It’s all right there in the owner’s manual.

But here’s what is amazing about these owner’s manuals: hardly anyone ever reads them. In fact, I bet some of you reading this haven’t looked at the owner’s manual even once.

Well, human lives are a lot more complex than any automobile. And God, our Designer, has given us an owner’s manual. It’s called the Bible, the Word of God.

Yet, for most people, this owner’s manual is also never read. Inside this manual is our make and design, and all we need to know to live our life to the fullest.

Here’s the really sad part. This wonderful owner’s manual, this written Word of God, has the power to transform lives. It points us to the One who transforms: His name is Jesus, the ultimate Word of God. We are directly dependent on this Word to have the perfect picture of Jesus.

However, even though we do depend on our owner’s manual (The Bible), we worship our Maker: God in Jesus Christ. 

Let us pray

Lord, it was You Who caused all Holy Scripture to be written for our learning. Teach us today in the power of Your Holy Spirit, the truths that You would have us learn.

Lord, we know that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Feed us on Your Word I pray, and make each man listening on the prayer line this morning hungry for the living Manna that came down from heaven, the heavenly Bread of Life and true and living Water, Who alone can bring us into our eternal inheritance you’ve promised. 

May the Spirit of all Truth open our minds today as we read and study Your Word. May we be willing to be led into all truth and to be taught what is the will of the Father in our lives. And give us we pray a willing heart and the opportunity to share with others the pearls of truth You have taught us today and everyday.  In Saviors’ name we pray.

Amen Jesus! Amen. Amen.

The number three is a powerful and often used number in scripture. When one goes looking for “threes” you can most certainly find them in Christianity. Noah had three sons (Gen. 6:10). Three visitors appeared to Abraham (Genesis 18:2). Jonah was inside the belly of the fish three days and nights (Jonah 1:17). Jesus answered Satan’s threefold temptations with three scriptural references (Matthew 4:1-11). Jesus’ ministry lasted three years. Peter denied Jesus three times (Luke 22:54-62), and three times Jesus affirmed his love (John 21:15-17). Samuel L. Jackson is Jules Winnfield, a mobster in a tight spot. Jules and his partner Vincent Vega (John Travolta), have just pulled into the home of Jimmie (played by Tarantino himself) with a dead body in the car which they have to dispose of pronto. Under pressure from Jimmie to get out of there as fast as possible, Jules calls his mob boss Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames) to apprise him of the situation and plead for backup. Wallace reassures him he'll be sending "the posse" in the form of "The Wolf" to help.
