Cornerstone

“Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.”  Exodus 20:3 Did you realize that every single person on earth has values? Now, they may not be GOOD values, but values, nonetheless. Even the mafia and drug lords have values. Confusion about values comes because man (human) starts at the wrong place – self. We’re filled with a culture of many people that are seeking to do what is “right in their own eyes.” This has led to chaos – morally, spiritually, emotionally, and relationally. I urge you to start with God’s number one commandment, “You shall have no other gods before Me.” Some argue that whatever is most important to you is really your god. So, let’s explore that logic. What makes the top of your priorities list? Is it family, success, money, power, possessions, or happiness? What is your most important value? When it’s anyone or anything besides God, it’s a ‘god’ (little ‘g’) and our value orientation gets out of whack. When we start from the wrong place, we always wind up lost and...

Wait

Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him…” Psalm 37:7 I don’t know about you brothers, but I hate to wait. From doctor appointments that run way too long, to rush hour traffic, waiting often feels like a waste of time. Thankfully, when it comes to waiting, God’s timing is always just on time! We need to trust that God sees the full picture and be willing to do His will, in His timing, not our own. Because, the right action at the right time equals the right result. So, what does it really mean to “wait on the Lord?” I’ll tell you one thing, it doesn’t mean just standing still and doing nothing; that’s not the idea. It might be how we wait around at a restaurant or in line at the DMV – we stand still, quietly waiting and not doing anything – but it shouldn’t be how we approach waiting on God. The word “wait” in the original Hebrew means, “to be bound like a rope or twisted or bonded together.” So, to wait on the Lord means that you trust Him, that you humble yourself and rely on His ...

Love, Grace, Forgiveness

Too many people have bought the lie “If I do enough, then I will be good enough.” But, the truth is – we will never be good enough. And that’s ok; because God offers us forgiveness through the Truth of Jesus’ death on the cross. The problem, however, is that too many people are still trying to earn their way to God. They are stuck with a head-knowledge of God, rather than a personal, life-changing experience of the heart. You see, when we finally experience the truth of the Good News of Christ on a personal level – lives begin to change. The undeserved grace and forgiveness that comes from faith in Jesus begins to transform our hearts. And as hearts change, lives change. Suddenly, our desires begin to line up with God’s desires. We have an inner want to and an empowerment to do so because of the grace that we’ve received. Life change begins in the heart. Are you struggling with restlessness in your life? An uneasiness in your spirit? Maybe you’ve never really encountered God on a ‘hear...

Humblebrag

The Lord had said to Abram, ‘Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. Genesis 12: 1-2 We’ve all seen Facebook and Instagram posts celebrating the exciting new car, job, or recent weekend trip, but often the posts don’t mention being grateful. Here’s a tip: don’t forget to add the #blessed humility-check before you click “post.” We’ve all been guilty of the “humblebrag” in one way or another. Today, social media has made it almost too easy to compare the successes of others and “humblebrag” about what are really the “blessings” in our lives. When we choose to follow God’s call in our lives, blessings will follow. Think about it. The ultimate calling in life is to follow Jesus. It makes us right with God. We are forgiven of all our sins and receive victory over death. The call to follow Jesus leads to an abundant and meaning...
