Romans 3:23

The other day a good friend of mine approached me with tears in his eyes and said that as of that moment he had no faith in God. I invited him to a private area, and we and I listened attentively as he talked about his lack of faith. When he was done the first thing that I said to him was that it's normal, absolutely normal to lose one's faith in times of despair. I did not quote scripture, I did not preach, I did not judge. Instead, I simply stated that as a man looking at another man in pain my love for him is unconditional. I truly believe that love is the greatest gift of all. But another phenomenal gift is the gift of choice. You see choice is something that we face on a daily basis and the decisions we make when faced with these choices are the building blocks of our own personal constructions sites shaping us into the men that we are. When I reflect on my past, the darkest points of my life were caused by the choices I made in the situations that I found myself in....

Never Scared

Church shootings, school shooting, cops shootings, kids shootings, people shooting people! Why? What's the answer!!!!? JESUS IS ALWAYS the answer. He's the answer before and during our problems. He does not change. He will do everything the Word says He will do. Romans 10:13 says, "Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Most of us probably think of this as a salvation scripture—and it is. Jesus is our Savior, and one day we'll be in Heaven with Him. But He is not just our Savior ultimately. Jesus is our Savior in any situation we're going through. It doesn't matter how depressed we are or how far we think we are from the Lord. When we need help, we should call upon Jesus. Doing this will change the way we feel and also those in our paths. It will change everything about us. You may reply "But Brother, I've gotten myself into this situation, and I have to get myself out." No! Jesus is the answer, the battle is His, ...

Depression - Down we go!

There is so much depression in the world today. Yes, depression is a disease and a very deadly one. If not treated the consequences are severe. My son suffers from it and I pray for him daily. I pray for all that suffer from this debilitating disease. Depression can be relieved by patiently meditating on God's Word and expecting Him to act. I can tell how many people I have witnessed to on this fact. Many! Some folks will not even try. It's in the Bible, Psalm 42:6, "Yet I am standing here depressed and gloomy, but I will meditate upon Your kindness to this lovely land where the Jordan River flows and where Mount Hermon and Mount Mizar stand." Prayer is a key to handling depression. Again, it's in the Bible, I Samuel 1:10. "In bitterness of soul Hannah wept much and prayed to the Lord." It is useful to count your blessings . This too is in the Bible, Psalm 107:8-9. "Oh, that these men would praise the Lord for His loving kindness, and for all...

Grace, not Guilt

I imagine there are plenty of Christians who rarely feel the sting of conscience or the pangs of regret. But I also know many, many Christians (including the one I see in the mirror every morning) who easily feel bad for all the things they are not doing or are doing less than perfectly. In fact, I’m convinced most serious Christians live their lives with an almost constant low-level sense of guilt. What do we do with all this behind the scenes guilt? We don’t feel stop-dead-in-our-tracks kind of remorse for these things. But these shortcomings can have a cumulative effect whereby even the mature Christian can feel like he’s rather disappointing to God, maybe just barely even a Christian. Here’s the tricky part: we should feel guilty sometimes because sometimes we are guilty of sin. Moreover, complacency as Christians is a real danger, especially here at home in America. But yet, I don’t believe God redeemed us through the blood of his Son that we might feel like constant failure...

Never back down!

Getting to know a person is like peeling an onion.  It’s a natural thing that we do most anytime we converse at length with a person we encounter for the first time. “Where do you live?”  “Where do you work?”  “Are you married?”  “Are you a football fan?”  “Do you have a hobby?”  “Where did you go to school?” Etc. etc. These questions – and many other common ones – peel away layers, one at a time, often getting deeper into the person’s life with each additional question.   And when done properly, our new acquaintances open their lives gradually without any sense of intrusion. It has been said that “We, who are believers, are not in hell because of the grace of God and we are not (yet) in heaven because of the Great Commission.”  Other than the worship of our Creator-Savior, our greatest reason to exist is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with people who do not yet know Him as Savior.  That is why it is so vital, that we seek thro...
