3
The number three is a powerful and often used number in scripture. When one goes looking for “threes” you can most certainly find them in Christianity.
Noah had three sons (Gen. 6:10). Three visitors appeared to Abraham (Genesis 18:2). Jonah was inside the belly of the fish three days and nights (Jonah 1:17).
Jesus answered Satan’s threefold temptations with three scriptural references (Matthew 4:1-11). Jesus’ ministry lasted three years. Peter denied Jesus three times (Luke 22:54-62), and three times Jesus affirmed his love (John 21:15-17).
And the biggie and most often reference to the number three is the Trinity, God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
So how can we harness the power of three? Well, let’s use and follow Jesus’ example. The Father is repulsed by sin so, as Jesus did in the desert let us also use the power of three to fight temptation.
When tempted by the evil one, do these three things immediately. First, pray! Ask the Lord to remove the temptation. Pray earnestly and with reverence to the Lord for His Spirit to engulf and protect you.
Second, put your cell phone to work. Press the play button on some worship music. Play it, sing it, hum it, listen to it!!! Music is powerful, and worship music can help ward off the temptation. Ask yourself right now, “Do you have worship music on your phone at the ready to help you? Some Elevation, Hillsong, Charlie Wilson, Jonathan Davis?” If not, trust me, it helps to have this type of ammunition loaded and ready to fire when needed.
Lastly, read Holy Scripture. Like music, the Word is your saving grace in times of need. That cell phone you always have with you, just like worship music ready there’s no reason not to have a Bible app locked and loaded. A great one is YouVersion. It’ll read Scripture for you.
Like God the Father dislikes sin, so should we, it separates us from Him and our own peace of mind. Using the power of three is a great way to stay focused on our Savior. It’s simple, Pray, Listen, Read. P.L.R. Pray, Listen, Read.
Let us pray -
Heavenly Father we come to you this morning thanking you for so much. Help us to remember whenever we're stressed, anxious, or afraid, and leaning towards sin, to never walk, but rather to run to You in prayer, in song, and in Your Word. Let us pray, listen, and read, in total confidence that you will save us from any unholy temptation that crosses our path.
We are Holy in your eye’s and in your armor more powerful than any force.
Amen Jesus! Amen. Amen!
