Our Journey
A new journey in life is often the beginning of new and exciting adventures. It may include traveling to other places, and it is an opportunity for a fresh start. Journeys usually require planning, and it begins with the first step – sometimes not a physical step but a step of faith that occurs when we overcome what may be stopping us from fulfilling our destiny.
The story of the Israelites in the desert after leaving Egypt is a good place to start thinking of as we start a new year of journeys. They had been enslaved for 400 years, and now they were finally able to travel and start on a fresh time in their lives and in their history. This similar to what our brother A.J. shared with us during his first time on the prayer line, "49 years in the wrong direction," he said. The exciting part is that God was leading us as He did the Israelites every step of the way, even during the hardships, and all we need to do is continue to follow in faith. Unfortunately, we don’t always lean on our faith to guide us, but as Christians we can, it's called prayer, reading God’s word, and following the leading of the Holy Spirit in the direction that He would direct.
Whenever inquiring of the Lord about a new journey in our lives, it is important to be obedient in listening to His directions. We shouldn’t want to do our own will but rather follow the Lord’s leading. Many ask, "How do I know God's voice?" That's simple, it's your true conscience that you hear telling you to do right. When we pray and read the Word and ask God for guidance, the voice we hear that contradicts what we really want to do is the Holy Spirit interceding and pointing us to the right path.
A destination is usually implied when referring to a journey, otherwise, it’s just wandering aimlessly in the wrong direction. It also indicates knowing that no matter how well we plan, the unknown still exists and we are required to move forward in faith. Therefore, it is imperative that we seek God’s favor, blessings and protection over any new journeys in this new year. We should also be grateful and excited about all of the new adventures we will experience in our walk with Him. New beginnings are a great time to start something you’ve always dreamed about or desired, and with God’s leading all things are possible.
Let Us Pray
O God, Who has commanded that no man should be idle, give us the grace to employ all our talents and faculties in the service appointed to us; that, whatsoever our hands find to do, we may do it with Your Holy Spirit in control. Cheerfully may we go on the road which You have marked out, not desiring too earnestly that it should be either more smooth or wider; but daily seeking our way by Your light; may we trust ourselves and the issue of our journey, to You Lord the Fountain of Joy, and sing songs of praise as we go along. Then, O Lord, receive us at the gate of life, which You will open for us with the love of Christ Jesus.
Amen. Amen. Amen.
