Crabs! Crabs in a bucket!
Remember the story of “Crabs in a Bucket?”
One day a man was walking along the beach and saw another man fishing in the surf with a bait bucket beside him. As he drew closer, he saw that the bait bucket had no lid and had live crabs inside.
"Why don't you cover your bait bucket so the crabs won't escape?" he said.
"You don't understand," the fisherman replied. "If there is one crab in the bucket it would surely crawl out very quickly. However, when there are many crabs in the bucket and one tries to crawl up the side, the others grab hold of it and pull it back down so that it will share the same fate as the rest of them."
Brothers, does that sound familiar? It should. Many people are crabs! If a brother tries to do something different, get straight with God, improve oneself, escape his environment, or start working big plans; negative people will try to drag him back down into a bucket of shared fate.
Negative thoughts that achieve nothing and do no good in our lives often creep into our minds. The broken world has brought us up to think these impure thoughts. As a child, we saw the beauty, the fun, and the glory of God's creation. We played, we danced, we discovered, and loved all. As adult men we still do, just not always. These thoughts of God's goodness must first be prompted by other men of Christ. And then we are suddenly reminded of how great our life and our providing God is.
I think we can agree when we were young boys we could see, then we became adult men and the broken world blinded us, and now with the help of our brothers in Christ, we are starting to see again. Amen!
Yes brothers, we can see the amazing Grace of the Cross, the Cross of every nation, ready to clear our hearts, our minds, our souls.
The moral of the story:
Ignore the crabs! Focus on the Cross of Salvation. Charge ahead and do what is right for you in God’s eyes. It may not be easy and you may not succeed as much as you like, but our Savior will ensure that you NEVER share the same fate as those crabs that never try, or try, and give up.
Let us pray -
Father, these men have come to a trying time in life, and we are not sure which direction to go. We know that if we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, then we will be walking in Your best way for our life, forever and always. Help your men Lord to be wise in the decisions we make at this junction, where various doors seem to our eyes to be closed. Lead us Lord in the direction that You would have us go day in, and day out. Keep us clear of the evil door and adjust our paths to find the glorious doors of Your Will for us.
Lord, we want our life to count, and we want to be successful in making a difference for not only ourselves but for all we encounter. Take our life Lord, take it! And at this crossroads, we seek rearrangement, redirection, and a complete change of attitude. Jesus LIGHT US UP! TURN UP THE BLAZE OF PASSION YOUR LOVE HAS FOR US AND IN US!!!
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit your men are on the move, passionately seeking You and only You.
In Jesus' Name we pray.
Amen! Amen! Amen!
