Let Go, And Know
Every day, we have to decide who’s going to be in control of our respective lives— us or God. That choice is a battle. There are things in your life that you want to control. You want to make your own rules. But real stress relief always starts with letting God be God. It always starts with saying, “God, I’m giving up control, because You can control the things that are out of control in my life.”
I don’t know what you’re going to face this weekend or next week. And guess what? You don’t either. But I can tell you what God wants you to do: Let go, and know. Let go of control, and know that God is in control. That’s what I mean by “Let go, and know!” This is the first step to serenity in our lives.
Whenever we face out-of-control situations, we tend to go to one of two extremes. For some of us, the more out-of-control our life gets, the harder we try to control it. And some of us do the exact opposite: We just give up! We have a pity party and send out an invite to ourselves to attend it. Both of those reactions to stress are foolish. You do know this right? They don’t work.
Instead of being a victim or becoming hyper-controlling, we could instead pray the prayer of surrender, daily! The number one reason for stress is because you’re in conflict with the Big G - God. You’re trying to control things that only God can control. You can’t control your wife, your kids, your job, your future, or your past or any of that stuff. The more you do it, the more you’re trying to play God, and that puts you in opposition to God. Not only are you going to lose that conflict, but you’re also going to be tired. Real tired! And with this kind of fatigue comes complaining, worrying, stressing, fussing, and all the other negative 'ings you do not like to feel, yet you still try to control what you cannot. Make sense?
Millions of people pray the Serenity Prayer, you’ve heard it, “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” This prayer is based on the Lord’s Prayer, but most have never read the last lines of the Serenity Prayer; the realness, the solution:
“Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time, accepting hardship as a pathway to peace, taking as He did this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that you Lord will make all things right if I surrender to Your will so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with You forever in the next. Amen.”
This is where the power is! There is power when we surrender to God the very things we’ve been trying to take control of from Him. Please meditate on this.
Let us Pray:
Heavenly Father, Thy will be done, not mine.
Amen. Amen. Amen.
SCRIPTURE
